Project Based Learning
As educators, it is our job to prepare students for post-secondary education and the real world. Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching methodology that engages and enriches student experiences using projects, group work, and problem-solving tasks. Through creative and authentic challenges, students use communication and collaboration skills to dive deeper into the topic at hand, enriching the learning experience.
Although there are some similarities, PBL is not a research project or presentation. Instead, PBL requires students to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to explore a question or topic at hand, and create a solution, model, or design that ties to the real-world and subject area.
PBL Works offers workshops, courses, and PBL activities and exemplars and is an incredible resource for implementing PBL into your practice. As always, start small and go from there. You can also check out our Science and Inquiry page for sample PBL’s.
